Mediation: Key Tool for Successful Conflict Resolution According to Professional Mediators
Abstract
This action-research study explores the key factors contributing to successful mediation outcomes, based on the experiences of professionals with a high agreement rate registered in the Mediation Centre of Catalonia. The main objective is to identify the strategies, skills, and conditions that these mediators consider essential for reaching effective agreements. Using a qualitative methodology, two focus groups were conducted with a total of 17 participants, and an interpretative phenomenological analysis was applied to their contributions. Findings highlight the importance of emotional management, empathic listening, process adaptability, and collaboration with legal representatives. Structural challenges and proposals for improving the sustainability and impact of agreements are also identified. These insights can inform good practices and guide public policy development in the field of mediation.
