Abstract

This chapter reviews the tensions between a public spectacle of the “everyday psychopatology” permitted and assimilated from a global psychological culture, while enhancing development of biomedical and genetic explanations of mental illness. As an example, advertising articles are used to analize the use of the word mad, in different continents, drawing parallels between memory representations and the madness from a critical approach to colonization.
