Pro-environmental behaviour and personality: Analysis in a suburb of Lima.
Abstract
This paper explore pro-environmental behaviors in a suburb of Lima -with depressed socioeconomic conditions and high levels of pollution- and how these behaviors correlate with psychological-personality traits and contextual variables -degree of proximity to polluting sources.
Two instruments were applied to a sample of 300 subjects: a scale to measure pro-environmental behavior (Pato and Tamayo, 2006) and a personality questionnaire based on Eysenck theory (EPI Personality Questionnaire-Form A).
The results indicate a positive self-reported performance of pro-environmental behaviors. As for personality traits, subjects scored highly on the index of neuroticism and low in extraversion. Personality factors did not correlate significantly with the dimensions of pro-environmental behavior, concluding that these traits are not relevant indicators to explain pro-environmental behavior in the population tested.
