Abstract

In this work, we identify variables that discriminate between people who participate and those who do not participate in institutions framed in a participatory conception of democracy that involve complex participatory actions. We conducted a survey study of citizens over 16 years of age (N = 663) in two cities in Argentina (Córdoba and Villa María). The discriminant analysis allowed to recognize the contribution of ideological attitudes, mobilizing political information, motivation, internal causal attributions, norms of citizenship and political trust. These results are consistent with those obtained in other studies that adopt a psychosocial approach and similar variables. At the same time, they allow questioning how democratizing and equalizing these institutions are being and justify new inquiries that allow us to establish whether this trend is confirmed and — at the same time — move towards understanding the factors that condition it.
