Abstract

The objective of research in child psychopathology is to advance knowledge, contribute to improving the mental health of children and adolescents, and prevent mental disorders in later stages of life. This requires bringing science to people. One way to do that is translational research. We must consolidate child psychopathology as a science, no longer a distinctly human science. Looking back on the research agenda of the past, allow us to intuit what the future will continue, alongside the new ones will emerge. We can assume that some will continue, as genetic research, neuroimaging studies, the longitudinal trebajos, the cognitive processing and the expansion of diagnostic categories for early years. Likewise, studies will give some solutions to current problems of mankind, such as violence, the increase of mental diseases, poor psychological and psychiatric assistance in third world countries, current migratory movements, respect for different cultures and the integration of people in different ways.
